Before you start

This course builds on Digital Literacy for Tech & STEM Work. Take it first if you are new to the topic.

About this course

Almost every technical job keeps some of its data in a spreadsheet: lab results, project costs, inspection logs, survey answers, inventory. This beginner course teaches you to do that work cleanly and correctly. You will build a tidy data table, write formulas with relative and absolute references, summarise data with SUM, AVERAGE, IF, SUMIF and COUNTIF, sort and filter rows, add validation rules, join two tables with XLOOKUP or VLOOKUP, and clean messy text, dates and duplicates. The last module covers pivot tables, choosing and labelling charts, and a mini project: a cost tracker with totals, a budget check and a chart. Every step works in free tools (Google Sheets or LibreOffice Calc), and Excel equivalents are given throughout. Each lesson has a reading, short videos, a hands-on task with a practice dataset, and a quiz.
