Before you start

This course builds on Math for Tech & STEM. Take it first if you are new to the topic.

About this course

Drawings are the shared language of engineers, electricians and mechanics. This beginner course teaches you to read them and to make simple ones. You will read orthographic and isometric views, line types, scales and title blocks; interpret dimensions and tolerances; read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, common mechanical and GD&T symbols, and site and floor plans. Then you will sketch a part by hand in three views, draw and dimension it in free 2D CAD software, and extrude a simple bracket in a free 3D tool. All hands-on work uses paper and a ruler or free software (FreeCAD, LibreCAD or the Onshape free plan). It builds on the measurement and geometry from Math for Tech & STEM.
