Work responsibly — and collect proof that you can do the work.
Two things turn a learner into a professional:
- Ethics and safety. STEM work affects real people — through data privacy, lab safety, and honest reporting. Doing it responsibly, even when no one's watching, is part of the job.
- Career evidence. You can't just say you have skills; you have to show them. Build a portfolio of artifacts: a solved-problem notebook, a small data project, a lab report, a build. Each should show the problem, what you did, the result, and what you'd improve.
Try it: pick one small project idea in a field that interests you and write a one-paragraph plan — the problem, your approach, and how you'll know it worked.
