This course builds on Professional Communication & Teamwork and SQL Fundamentals. Take them first if you are new to the topic.
About this course
Business and systems analysts stand between the people who run a business and the people who build its systems. This intermediate course teaches the core analyst toolkit with one running example: a public library that books its meeting rooms by phone and a paper diary. You will learn what analysts do and where the role sits, run a stakeholder interview, and draw an as-is process map; write user stories with Given/When/Then acceptance criteria, separate functional from non-functional requirements and prioritise with MoSCoW; and model the system with use cases, activity diagrams and an entity relationship diagram that you test with SQL, before writing a gap analysis and a to-be design. Each lesson has a short reading, curated videos and a practical task you can do on paper or in a free diagramming tool. It builds on Professional Communication and SQL Fundamentals and points to the IIBA certifications (ECBA, CCBA, CBAP).

Module 3
Modelling Systems
3 lessons · 2h 3mModel behaviour with use cases and activity diagrams, model data with an ERD, and close the loop with a gap analysis and a to-be design.
- 41mUse cases and UMLReading
Draw a UML use-case diagram and an activity diagram, and write a use-case description with main and alternate flows.
