Before you start
This course builds on Digital Literacy for Tech & STEM Work. Take it first if you are new to the topic.
About this course
Good visual design is a set of learnable decisions, not a talent you either have or lack. This beginner course covers the principles behind clear screens: visual hierarchy, grids and whitespace, and the Gestalt principles of grouping; typography, colour and contrast that meet accessibility guidelines, and consistent icons and imagery; and the everyday tools of the job: frames and auto layout in Figma, reusable components and styles, and structured design critique. Each lesson has a short reading, curated videos and a hands-on task on paper, in free Figma or in a small HTML and CSS exercise. It prepares you for UX design, game design and front-end work.
