About this course

Cloud engineers and machine learning engineers spend much of their week on someone else's computers. This intermediate course explains how the public cloud really works and lets you try it safely on a free tier. You will learn the service models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS and serverless), how regions and availability zones let a system survive a failure, and who is responsible for what under the shared responsibility model. Before you create anything you set a budget alert. Then you launch and connect to a small virtual machine, store files in object storage with access rules, and sketch a VPC with public and private subnets. The last module covers identity and access management with least-privilege policies, keeping secrets out of code, monitoring with alarms and health checks, and planning an entry-level certification such as AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900) or Google Cloud Digital Leader. Examples use AWS because its free plan is easy to start, and every lesson names the Azure and Google Cloud equivalents. Every hands-on task ends with a cleanup step. It builds on Linux Administration.
